The standard Honda Activa has reigned Indian roads for 20+ years as the iconic epitome of function over fun. The most successful model that Honda has ever sold in this country, the Activa has clocked more than 25 million units till date.

Bringing this legendary product into the electrified future brings the concept of the model in line with modern day environmental attitudes and reflects the inevitable trend that will see all new Honda global models include electrified technology.

“We owe it to our customers,” Mr. Takahiro Hachigo, Honda’s global chief executive, said during a news conference in Mumbai last quarter, “to make better products.”

The move of the Activa to electric is not just a new model change but also our perspective of how people in India and coming ahead will think about of sustainable future mobility solutions.”

This is further confirmation of the confidence Honda has in the development of a flagship scooter with electric power.

Analysts in the industry estimate around ₹1,200 crore being poured into R&D alone for the Activa Electric project by Honda.

This is a big sum of money and shows the company’s commitment to making a electric scooter that is as reliable as the Activa but with much modern features.

Expected Price Brackets: Competitive but Premium

Honda’s always billed the Activa as offering value for money and we reckon the electric version will do exactly that, at a premium that electric powertrains usually command, of course.

Estimated HONDA ACTIVA ELECTRIC PRICE The Honda’s Activa electric will be available to buy for Rs 85,000 – 1,10,000 from the given sources and current market situation.

Three separate versions are expected:

Activa Electric Standard: 85,000 (Both ex-showroom prices) – 90,000

Activa Electric DLX: INR 95,000 -1,00,000

Activa Electric Premium: Rs 1.05 lakh to 1.10 lakh

These price tags would be in line with Ather Energy and Ola Electric Models, while at a minor premium over Hero Electric and Okinawa options.

The Honda is apparently eyeing the mid to upper-mid section of the electric scooter segment, with its hopes pinned on the brand value and the Activa’s aspirational value to pull the pricing.

The end retail prices are likely to be lower due to several government subsidies under the FAME II initiative and state level electric vehicles subsidy incentives.

In states like Delhi, Maharashtra and Gujarat there are added subsidies as well and the on-road cost for the Activa Electric can drop to an effective ₹15,000 – ₹25,000 cheaper and in that price-affordable zone of the new Activa Electric.

Superb Mileage And Range Figures

Then of course, the most important thing when it comes to any electric scooter is its range, and the company appears to have really put in a lot of work to make sure the Activa Electric doesn’t let anyone down.

As per leaked test reports and industry sources, the Activa Electric will have an impressive real-world range, depending on its versions:

Standard version: 85-90 km for each charge

DLX Variant: 110-120 km per charge

High End Version: 130-150Km per charge

These are actual r-e-a-l world (as opposed to test-cycle ideal which is how most other brands describe their ranges) figures, so it sounds like Honda is being as transparent as possible when it comes to range claims.

The differences in range are the result of the different battery capacities on the models.

The Activa Electric is said to have a 2.2 kWh battery pack in Standard version and 3.6 kWh in the Premium version and they are lithium-ion units.

The batteries will be IP67 certified – dust and water immersion- resistant, which is a very essential feature in Indian weather.

Honda allegedly has its own battery management system (H-ECO, for Honda Efficient Charge Optimization) that optimizes power for both optimal input and battery longevity.

The unit is constantly checking temperature, voltage and charging cycles to keep you and your camera as safe as possible.

High-Flying Tech Specifications

Looking at the technical specification of Honda Activa Electric, it is quite clear that Honda is not just looking at replacement of a petrol Honda Activa with an electric option, but wants to make sure that where it leaves an impact.

At the core of the Activa Electric will be a mid-mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) with power ranging depending on the different versions:

Standard Version: 2.2 kW (continuous output) / 4.4 kW (maximum output)

DLX Variant: 3.0 kW (continuous) / 5.0 kW (peak)

DéLuxe Variant: 4.0 kW (continuous) / 6.0 kW (peak)

Power figures like these are sure to get those performance-centred numbers sparking, with the Premium variant being able to dash from 0-40 km/h within 3.2 seconds and top out at 85 km/h, while the Standard and DLX variants will hit top speeds of 65 km/h and 75 km/h respectively – perfect for the urban rush times.

And, Honda has introduced three riding modes on all its versions:

Eco Mode – Limits max speed to 45 km/h for ultimate range

City Mode: Optimises performance and range for daily commuting

Sport Mode: Experience full engine power for exhilarating acceleration and speed

A fourth “Custom Mode” will be available for the Premium version, offering users tactile control over countless performance so riders can perfectly tailor their ride with the free InMotion app.

The scooter will be built on Honda’s new lightweight electric vehicle frame and will weigh 108 kg (Standard) to 121 kg (Premium) on the kerb which is similar to the petrol Activa despite carrying a battery.

Infrastructure and solutions for charging

While charging infrastructure is limited for now in India, Honda has addressed the issue with a complete charging facility for the Activa Electric.

All models will be capable of normal home charging from a portable charger that plugs in to a normal 5A socket. Charging times will vary:

Normal Version: 100-0% in 4 hours

DLX Variant: 0-100 % in 5 hours

Plus Model: 0-100% in 6 hours

The DLX and Premium will also be available for fast charging through a special DC fast charger and the company claims it will take around 40 minutes for 0-80% charge levels. Honda is said to be partnering with multiple charging station providers in order to develop a structure for fast charging stations in populated centers.

Another novelty developed as part of an initiative called “Honda Power Share” sees the Premium model capable of acting as a power bank that can deliver an electric output of 200W for use in charging electronic devices, or in an emergency, another electric vehicle.

Smart Options and Connection

The Activa Electric will also be Honda’s serious attempt at connected mobility in the Indian market. Bluetooth connectivity will be standard across all trims, while the DLX and Premium trims will also come with cellular connectivity allowing smart features via the ”Honda RoadSync” app.

Connected features–such as:

Live battery status and estimated driving range

Remote open/close and vehicle location

Riding stats and efficiency stats

Service reminder and diagnostic

Software updates over the air

The Premium model will also come with premium features, such as geofencing, riding behavior analysis, and a special “Guardian Mode,” which alerts you when your scooter leaves a predefined area—handy for keeping an eye on your kids or for preventing theft.

Instrument console too will come in different forms ranging from simple digital unit from the petrol Activa to a full-colour TFT unit found on the DLX and Premium options which will deliver additional data including turn by turn navigation prompts, incoming call notification and a detailed vehicle report.

Expected Arrival Timeline

So far, Honda has been harping on strategic silence on the official launch of the Activa Electric. But, several industry sources and vendors say Honda is actively considering a phased roll-out starting 3QFY25-26.

It is to debut initially in eight metros – Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata. This staggered rollout will provide Honda with an opportunity to develop service support and systems before heading to Tier-II cities by early 2026.

Commenting, the company is likely to produce the Activa Electric at its upgraded Narsapura factory near Bengaluru that’s being tuned for electric vehicle production, reports claim.

At the outset, production capacity will be up to around 10,000 units a month, with plans to increase based on market response.

Implications and competition effects on the market

If the Honda Activa Electric makes it to our shores, it could make serious waves in the electric two wheeler segment in India.

The Activa Electric will benefit from the unparalleled reach of the company’s network of over 6,000 touchpoints through Honda’s network in India, which is quite out of reach for the present electric two-wheelers manufacturers.

Rival models such as Ather Energy, Ola Electric and Bajaj’s Chetak may have a lot to worry about when the Activa Electric launches.

The value of Honda’s brand and injection of a reliability argument into Activa territory itself could convince many potential fence-sitters to embrace electric mobility.

“To put it bluntly, the Activa Electric is not just another product launch, but a crucial litmus test of India’s ability to embrace EVs,” comments industry analyst Rajesh Menon of AutoTech Insights.

The entrance of Honda lends the electric scooter category credibility, and could speed up the time frame of the overall industry shift.”

With launch day inching closer, the electric two-wheeler space in India soon is headed for its most significant change yet, with the electric version of India’s most-loved scooter heralding a new dawn of sustainable riding.
